A friend gave birth this morning, and of course my first instinct (after tearing up, staring at the pictures and sending my excited congratulations) was to check out the child's birth chart.It is an extraordinary thing to look at the chart of a new person because, like the baby, it is pure potential. It is the clay just now quarried, which could eventually become brick, pipe, pot or sculpture -- nobody yet knows. Stories are not yet inscribed on this chart, just lines, colors and shapes that hold the unsullied energy of the newborn.
It is a profound exercise in imagination to look at a new chart, a new child, and feel the unfathomable hope of total potential open your own heart to the possibilities of the world.
